India’s World Cup win – 25 years hence

This year marks the 25th year of India’s historic World Cup cricket win. Some of the vivid memories from that win remain etched in memory – Sandhu’s banana inswinger to get rid of Greenidge, Kapil’s catch to get rid of Richards who was in a hurry to finish off the match, Mohinder Amarnath’s precious MoM performance and of course, Kapil lifting the Prudential Cup. At that time, we didn’t have the privilege of watching it on TV. But thanks to YouTube, we can at least relive the moments. Here are the complete highlights.

Trying to be environment friendly

Ok – so, i am trying my best to be environment friendly. As a start, I am taking public transport to go to work. Also, the fact that gas prices are sky-rocketing also helped in making my decision. The past week was spent in figuring out what is the optimum time needed to reach office. So, here is the breakdown:

(1). Home to Great Mall Light Rail Station – 10 mins

(2). Great Mall Light Rail Station to Tasman Light Rail Station – 9 mins

(3). Tasman Light Rail Station – Old Ironside Station – 8 mins

(4). Y! Shuttle – 10 mins

The total time from my home to my desk at office is ~ 50 mins.

This is not bad because firstly, i don’t need to drive in the morning traffic. Additionally, I spend sometime in catching up on my magazine reading.

If you haven’t tried this option of commute out, i highly recommend it.

The “Dol(l)ar” in the Bangladesh Cricket Team

There is a new kid on the block in the Bangladesh Cricket Team – Dol(l)ar Mahmud. A curious facet of his name is that commentators can have a go at him in more ways than one. For example, when Dolar was thumped for 24 runs in the first 5 balls of his first over in the recent one-dayer between India and Bangladesh at Mirpur and then came back to take Sehwag’s wicket, one of the commentators made a comment – “The Dol(l)ar is fluctuating again …” 🙂

Here is wishing that Dol(l)ar remains strong in future.
